Carrier oils, butters, extracts and powders: what to check before you formulate.
Carrier oils and butters form the base of many formulations. Extracts and powders add actives or colour. Fragrance ingredients are used in small amounts but are sensitive to quality. Each needs different checks.
For oils, say whether you need cold pressed or refined. For butters, specify refined or unrefined. For extracts, state the form and any standardisation. Ask for the INCI name where relevant.
Always test a sample in your own formulation before bulk. Check appearance, odour, colour, texture and stability, since these affect the finished product.
Natural oils and butters can change with heat, light and air. Ask about shelf life, packing and storage conditions, and plan your stock accordingly.
We shortlist and verify suppliers for your requirement, coordinate samples and quality checks, and keep a specification sheet so reorders stay consistent.
